Presented in the various regions of Quebec, En action pour la main-d'œuvre is an initiative of the Legault government that includes concrete initiatives concerning labour scarcity. Indeed, significant current demographic changes and strong economic growth are causing a labour shortage that affects all businesses in all regions.
Mr. Jean Boulet, Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity and Minister responsible for the Mauricie region, has launched a major offensive to listen to companies operating in a context of labour shortage and equip them better.
The 4 fronts
- Integrate as many people as possible into the labour market, including people with disabilities, experienced workers, Natives and immigrants.
- Adapt the current workforce to support workers in order to update their skills to respond to economic transformations by providing them with continuous training.
- Prepare the future workforce by offering training adapted to the changing needs of the market and by orienting young people towards these fields.
- Increase the productivity of businesses by helping them implement solutions to compensate for labour shortages, through work reorganization, equipment acquisition, digitization, robotization, information technologies, research and development.
Training of the workforce
More specifically, Mr. Jean Boulet announced $1.9 million for the training of mechanics in the repair and maintenance of electric vehicles. This will allow mechanics to develop the skills necessary to operate safely on all types of electric vehicles and to diversify their knowledge and thus maintain their employment.
The voice of Lumen
During the 12th stop of the En action pour la main-d'oeuvre Tour in Laval with Mr. Jean Boulet and Mr. Christopher Skeete, Deputy of Sainte-Rose, various partners from the education, manpower and business sectors were invited. Lumen was present at this meeting, which aimed to make our voice heard by the government and to name the realities we are experiencing on the ground.
